On Twitter, Hillary Clinton wrote: "Just returned from marching in the annual Chappaqua Memorial Day Parade with everyone from Governors to Girls Scouts. Today we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country to keep us safe here at home."
Bill Clinton tweeted: "Remembering, honoring, and thanking all who served our great country."
"This Memorial Day, as we spend time with friends and loved ones, we remember those New Yorkers, from the North Country to Staten Island, who gave their lives for our nation, our values, and our way of life," Cuomo said in a statement issued Monday afternoon. "Our nation's armed forces have displayed extraordinary courage and made unimaginable sacrifices answering the call to serve, and we owe our eternal gratitude to them and their families."
"On behalf of all New Yorkers, I extend my sincerest thanks to the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve, and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
"On this day - and every day - we commemorate those selfless heroes who laid down their lives to protect our freedom and our democracy."
